Inspiration Exploitation: The MixTape!

Inspiration Exploitation Front Cover

Drop droppin it!  More mixtape action coming at you:  It has been months since the last release, which by my calculation is far too long.  It’s time to freshen the ear with the sweet sounds of the Body Rock selects.  A lot of amazing music in this mix.  Setting the tone right with DCUP’s SMASHING remix of Last Night a DJ Saved My Life, we keep the funk alive as we move into Best Party Ever by one of my favorite producers Shazam.

The mix moves into a deeper, but still plenty funky direction as we get into the UK sounds of Joy Orbison and MJ Cole. That MJ Cole remix, which blows me away every time I hear it, actually came to my attention when myself and the rest of My Dear Disco put our brains on a remix of that same tune for Todd Edwards and Scion A/V Records.  MJ Cole took such a different approach in him mix, I just really love it.  I am quickly becoming a sucker for those pseduo-half-time dance feels Cole and Orbison demonstrate so nicely in this mix.

Another of my favorite producers, Phonat, is nicely featured in this mix with his incredible journey of a track Set Me Free, and his remix of the Young Punx Rockall.  The mix moves on and into some tight indie-house remix joyousness featuring an amazing A-trak remix of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Boy 8-but crushing Dj Touches track “Paddle” and the perfect ending is found in Tommie Sunshine’s amazing acid edit of “Hide and Seek” by Imogen Heap.  Check it.

These tracks come to you dancefloor tested, meaning these are the jams I play out when we rock out.  Play it loud and play it often!

LOVE.

Soundcloud and My Dear Disco Remixes

So I recently got a soundlcoud account hooked up, which as far as I can tell will make much easier and more enjoyable to share tracks with you and for you to share tracks with me.  I created a new little drop box widget which should make it easy for you to share your tracks with me if you think I’ll like them (and if I do I will for sure play them out), and also I am posting some remixes I did with My Dear Disco in this post so you can check em out.  Actually I think I already posted some of these here, but whatever.  Peep them below.

I got Body Blogged!

Yep.  finally made it to the big time: blog coverage.  The folks at New Music Blog were kind and gentle enough to post up a copy of my latest mixtape Das Funkizeit Mixtape!  They even said a few nice things about it such as:

“The DJ from My Dear Disco (remember them music industry types) has unleashed this little nugget of joy unto the world and what a little nugget of joy it is. Don’t normally post mixtapes but, well, why not eh? WHY NOT.”

Photos from Body Rock set in Kalamazoo

Had a GREAT time opening for my band My Dear Disco at our 11/28 in Kalamazoo.  Many those to those danced and shouted.  I almost wore myself out before the MDD set even began!

SOME PHOTOS FROM THE SET:

Youmacon!

So last night I got to spin for one of this year’s highlight gigs!  After My Dear Disco played, I did a late night set at the Youmacon rave for a good 600-700 Costumed Out dancers.  The scene was pretty bonkers and I got to share the stage with some great DJ’s like DJ’s Daguru, Toshi, and Oddy.  Oddy dropped a great remix of my band My Dear Disco at the start of his set and it was great to see it get the room into a frenzy.  I saw a bunch of people taking a lot of pictures and video during the set so I will hopefully have those pretty soon to post up here!

More updates to follow in the near future.

Peace,

BR

Das Funkizeit Mixtape!

Hey hey!

Well last night I finally recorded the new mix that I have been planning for awhile!  Finished the artwork this morning and it is good and ready to be consumed by the masses.  As always stream using the player at the bottom of the page or right click to download.  Got some great tracks from a lot of great heads.  Esp. dig on the John Bourke remix of “Up All Night” by French Horn Rebellion.  Been loving the SHIT out of that track lately.  Also classic epic shazam remix of Dizzee Rascal and Calvin Harris.  He’s one of my favs hands down.

Enjoy.

Summer ReMixtape

Here’s a little mix tape that I made earlier this summer that focuses on remixes I’ve been digging on.  I made it for release on the My Dear Disco website, but thought it would be a good idea to distribute it on the Body Rock website as well.  Check it out:
